A free demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword is live on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. It includes the Sasaki Ganryu duel at Kiyomizu-dera and an expanded Daidara fight, and keeping your save data unlocks the Kubi Akari Charm in the full game.

Quick answer

The demo is free on all four launch platforms and includes two boss encounters: Sasaki Ganryu at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and a towering Genma called Daidara. Demo save data does not carry into the full game, but keeping it on your system can unlock the Kubi Akari Charm when you start the retail build.

Where to download

The demo is listed separately from the full game on each storefront. Search for "Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo" on the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Nintendo eShop, or Steam. All four listings are free and require no pre-order or purchase of the base game.

Save-data rule and the Kubi Akari Charm

Genma swarming a flooded village in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the expanded demo content the save bonus carries into the full game.

PlayStation Blog's expanded-demo interview and the official store listings confirm that demo progress cannot be transferred into the base game. Your level, equipment, and story position from the demo reset when you start the retail build.

The exception is the Kubi Akari Charm. If you keep the demo save file on your console or PC, the full game detects it and grants the charm. The charm strengthens Musashi's abilities, making it a genuine head start rather than a cosmetic token. Deleting the demo save before starting the retail game forfeits the bonus.

Step-by-step: claim the Kubi Akari Charm

Step 1. Download and play the demo on your chosen platform. Complete at least one encounter so the save file exists.

Step 2. Do not delete the demo or its save data after playing. Leave the save file in your system storage.

Step 3. Launch the full game. When you gain access to equipment or charms, the Kubi Akari Charm appears as a granted item. Verify it in-game if it does not appear immediately at the start.

Language support in the demo

The PlayStation demo listing includes Arabic as a screen language for menus and subtitles. The voice-language list on that same listing does not include Arabic, so the demo's spoken audio remains in its standard set. This answers the specific question of whether Arabic is supported: yes for text display, no for voice.

The full game on Steam lists 14 supported languages. English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese-Brazil, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese include full audio; Arabic is interface and subtitles only on the platform that lists it.

Demo vs full game

The expanded demo reflects the retail build's combat systems, including Break Issen after depleting an enemy's Stamina Gauge and Dynamic Dismemberment along the blade trajectory. It does not include the wider Kyoto exploration, mission progression, or the Oni Bow and Oni Refuge systems described in the final preview.
